To get a change of scenery without buying tickets, Oak Canyon Nature Center is an option in Anaheim. The city notes that entry and parking are free; it suggests a voluntary $5 donation.

Before you head out

Trails are open from sunrise to sunset. Note: the parking gates and restrooms close at 5 p.m. The interpretive center has different hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The address is 6700 E Walnut Canyon Road. Pets are not allowed, except service animals, nor are bicycles. Groups need a reservation.

Plan your visit

Bring water, allow for travel time, and check the official rules before you go. Photography requires a permit per the city. Confirm any access changes before heading out.
